Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Piarist Fathers of the Province of the United States and Puerto Rico, I would like to extend cordial greetings to you. Your kindness toward us is truly a blessing from God. Therefore, in short, my message to you is: “Thank you.”
As I write this short message, it comes to my mind that the Olympics have begun in Japan. If there is something that characterizes an Olympiad, it is the genuine sense of human participation in differ-ent competitions. They are meant to not humiliate anyone but to recognize and honor the human quality of those, who have spent a lot of time and energy in improving them-selves. Of course, the athletes have the noble desire to win but also to rejoice in the triumph of others.
I speak from my own experience. Until the age of 32, when my superiors sent me to Cameroon, I trained hard for long distance competitions. I competed. Sometimes I won, but sometimes I lost. At the same time, I never allowed myself to give up trying or to not finish a race.
From the moment of our conception until the time we take our last breath, we should always try to be passionate. In the midst of the pandemic, the Piarists of our Province trusted in “the coach par excellence,” who is the Holy Spirit. We dared to go out to the periphery and to expand to new min-istries. Let me explain myself.

  • In January 2021, together with the Piarists from Mexico and California, we opened a new community in Cabrican-Huitan, Guatemala. There are now four religious, one of them from our Province. With God’s grace, others will join them later.
  • On July 16, 2021, the Piarist community in Cuba became a part of our USA-PR Province. During the 19th century, Cuba was a pioneer for the Piarists in the Western Hemisphere. We accept this enormous responsibility confidence and trust in the “God of surprises.”
  • On August 1, 2021, we officially opened a new community in Adjuntas in the Diocese of Ponce, PR. There we are now responsible for the Parish of St. Joachim and St. Anne as well as St. Joachim Academy.

The mission of the Piarist Fathers is not a work of art, which is to be admired in a museum of historical memories. It is a beautiful adventure, like an Olympic competition. We evangelize children and young people, where the crown of sanctity is the greatest trophy. This work is not reserved to a few. We are all official candidates, including you. It is all about letting our-selves be trained by the Holy Spirit. Thanks to all of you for helping us with this beautiful task.

Otoño 2021

Estimados amigos,
Me explico.
